GENERAL GRANT:

On his deathbed U.S. Grant requested that the 8th MO Infanry (US) Regimental Flag and 15 other Regimental Flags be displayed at his funeral.   The flags have been on permanent display in Grant's Tomb in New York City since 1897.   Veterans of the 8th MO attended and marched in the Grant funeral procession (1885) and the dedication of the tomb (1897).   In 1997, 8th MO re-enactors marched in the parade at the Rededication of Grant's Tomb.
